ABOUT. . .

David Krupla is a freelance lighting designer who loves to collaborate on new and classic plays, musicals, opera, and dance. 

 

His previous design credits include, King John and Much Ado About Nothing at Nebraska Shakespeare; She Loves Me, Hansel & Gretel, Iago’s Plot, February Dance: Designed Environments, Dream Girls, and In the Blood at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; These are the Times workshop production at Cleveland Public Theatre; The World Goes Round at Porthouse Theatre.  He has also worked with such companies as The Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre, The Santa Fe Opera, and Great Lakes Theatre. 

 

David is currently the Associate Lighting Director at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he also serves on the Lighting Design faculty.  Previously he severed as the Lighting Director at The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center and the Resident Lighting Designer at The Studio Theatre Tierra Del Sol located in The Villages, Florida.

 

He holds an MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a BA from Kent State University.
